Mediatonic PR is a boutique public relations & social media agency that specializes in Lifestyle and Entertainment communications – – we also love to do good with some social issues work or get our geek on with techy clients and everything in between. What you need for this position:

  • *  MANDATORY minimum of two years (2) of experience within the social media field required.
  • * Strong technical background with an affinity to use web-based, cloud programs and a strong affinity for navigating advanced Google Analytics. Proficiency with those tools to help monitor, collect, and analyze data to guide strategic decision-making.
  • * Must be extremely detail oriented, resourceful, and able to produce high-quality deliverables while managing multiple projects.
  • * Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize, thrive under pressure, and work efficiently under short deadlines.
  • * Ability to display high energy (you thrive in a VERY fast-paced environment), take initiative, achieve performance goals, and effectively troubleshoot while focusing on innovative solutions.
  • * Ability to work as a member of a team, as well as independently.
  • * Your own high functioning laptop (Mac a bonus), full Microsoft Office suite, and smart phone.
  • * Core team is based in Vancouver, with satellite team in Toronto. For the right persona we will consider Toronto but the ideal person will be Vancouver-based.
  • * Demonstrated experience and a passion for the social technology universe: Facebook, Twitter, Flickr & YouTube (if you know WordPress that’s a huge bonus), and all the tools to go with the interfaces.
  • * Word & excel (formulas especially), and Googling are second nature daily tools.
  • * Superior communication and interpersonal skills are a must; proficient in English and have excellent writing and proofing skills.
  • * Big organizer, detail & deadline oriented and a major multi-tasker that can deal with pressure.
  • * Have initiative – if you see something that needs to be done or that can be done better you get a rush from stepping up! Can-do attitude.

What you’ll be doing:

  • * Responsible for managing a multiple accounts (3-4 in a typical portfolio) across different verticals ranging from lifestyle to entertainment.
  • * Work with clients to create a social media strategy that collaborates with marketing, PR and advertising campaigns, research top influencers, competitors, and trends in clients’ industries.
  • * Create timely and engaging content optimized for platform used and intended audience.
  • * Monitor sites for customer service opportunities and initiate conversations on behalf of the client.
  • * Be happy, smile, and bring a positive attitude to the office. We like to have fun even in the cray cray.
  • * Analyze and report social media actions on a monthly basis for successes and new opportunities. Reports are very reliant on advanced Google Analytics and other measurement tools.
  • * Create engaging and professional visuals that reflect client and their brand (Customize social media pages, create original content, etc).
  • * Stay current with social media trends and tools – includes attending networking and educational events, reading blogs, and listening to podcasts.
  • * Continue to refine and define our social marketing process.

GE Dinner by Design Does Vancouver

The Media Preview of GE Monogram Dinner by Design blew people away. Count me as one of those!

Our client The Social Concierge partnered with GE Monogram to bring the GE Dinner by Design series to Vancouver and kick off IDS west. But none of GE’s events had been done like this inaugural west coast contribution.

Ten of the hottest West Coast interior and landscape designers competed to create the best one-of-a-kind, three dimensional dining spaces. The rules: set up in 24 hours and 10 people must be able to be seated comfortably.

The designers will then collectively host a gourmet, three-course meal by Culinary Capers. Competitors include interior designer Kelly Deck of Kelly Deck Design (bottom left – – Kelly’s team cross-stitched their backdrop by hand (we say over 8 people with yarn in hand during setup).), Karin Bhone of Moeski (top feature image), and architect David Nicolay of Evoke (bottom right – white table). Proceeds benefit the Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation.

GE gushed how they saw more creativity in the room than they’d ever witnessed before. #PRpride Vancouver topped Toronto and New York!

Diner en Blanc 2013 – Vancouver Victoria Calgary

While Diner en Blanc celebrated its 25th Anniversary in Paris – we worked with The Social Concierge to bring it to Vancouver for year two (Science World) and premier in Calgary (Memorial Park) and Victoria (St Ann’s Academy).

Victoria was stunning to watch amongst the elm trees at the old girls school. It might have rained a little in Calgary, but in their recovery from the floods that was nothing. The evening was marked by 1,300 Calgary Stampede White Hats waving in the air.  And Vancouver – yah – that’s my crew from Jeremy Szafron, Dani Kremeniuk, Tonia Mattu to the lovely Erin Cebula.

Now we have to top all this next year!

Deighton Cup Weekend at the Races Ups the PR & Style Factor

This is how Vancouver does Southern charm. Hands down my favorite event of the year and this year our team lead the public relations.

This event is a step back in time – its growing success isn’t about Miss America hosting or Mint Juleps – – it’s about the resurgence of the appreciation of leisure that doesn’t involve a kayak or hike. It embodies Southern luxury and opulence reminiscent of The Great Gatsby. From Kentucky Derby style & horseraces to bocce ball. From dapper men in hats and ascots to sophisticated ladies in dresses and fascinators, Deighton Cup brings out something Vancouverites are hungry for.

An almost PR nightmare was when Miss America was in the convertible enroute to the track when a bird dropping smacked square on her head.  But she was a trooper about it!

Another Music & Sports Festival Season Under Our Belt!

Center of Gravity 2013 marks one of my favorite press conferences. We hoisted media up on the lifts 3-stories to the top of the biggest Dirt Zone ramps yet. We had the media wall set up there and it was picturesque to have the Mayor’s ribbon cutting at the edge of the ramp while motocross and FMB tricks looped in the background.

Not to be outdone by the sports – the music this year headlined Tiesto, Kaskade, to Tommy Lee (the man keeps with the times) and Dadalife. When we weren’t doing PR hustling we enjoyed from beach side cabanas especially when over 30K fans visited this year and Tim Hortons & McDonalds even ran out of food! The festival bring in over $6M to Kelowna, BC.

I think my favorite part of Keloha Arts & Music Festival 2013 was watching our team listen live from the media pit to all the songs that loop over and over in our office. We hosted MGMT, Capital Cities, Atlas Genius and more. And it was pretty memorable when Matt & Kim were jamming and Matt fell into the pond around the stage. Even if it made this publicist’s heart stop for a moment.

What are the Biggest Comic-Cons in North America?

Oh, the life of the Con! and the public relations & social media that goes along with fan conventions sure keeps our PR team hopping when on a average show we’re sorting interviews for over 100 celebrity guests and hosting over 200 media at each show. Publishing Weekly wrote this article for a run down on “What are the biggest comic-cons in North America?” Proud to say we’ve worked with four of them!

POW! Parade of Wonders & Calgary Expo

We get to do a really different type of entertainment PR when it comes to the media relations demanded of the comic-con (fan conference or convention) world. This past spring at Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo we hosted over 60K fans and the stars of Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Dr Who, Star Trek, Princess Bride, X-Files, and Star Wars (even Princess Leia herself, Carrie Fisher). You’ve never seen so many Slave Leia costumes! And then there was the concert for Weird Al Yankovic.

A highlight was doing the PR around Calgary’s first POW! Parade of Wonders – a parade built on the bizarre world of cosplay: Co-Marshalled by the Torchwood Trio: John Barrowman, Eve Myles, & Garret David Lloyd and Calgary Mayor Nenshi – who even rode in the ‘Back to the Future’ Deloren. Did we mention Mayor Nenshi even made our celebs honorary Calgarians in a White Hatting Ceremony.

There was also an interesting morning press circuit with Casper Van Dien who had a Stormtroopers flashback while hosting the morning weather report on Breakfast TV and when we stopped by to see Tarzan Dan at the KOOL FM morning show – we were all wide awake after he broke out a Tarzan cry and showed off his Casper tattoo. It’s not every day that a publicist gets to enlist the help of Will Wheaton to write Star Trek-centric interview questions for other celebrity guests. Oh the lengths we go to, to help our media friends get their interviews!

Fan Expo Sets Records & PR Firsts

It’s truly the age of the nerd. This past spring we did the media relations for Fan Expo Vancouver – this time moving into the bigger convention hall. And in 2014 we’ll now be expanding to three days.  We’ll have to top Tia Carriere (shwing!) co-hosting the entire CityTV morning show with Riaz Meghji. And Lord of the Rings star, Sean Astin, front cover of the Vancouver Sun with his joining the Sun Run in support of the Boston Marathon bombings.

And this fall we raised the comic-con bar with social media love for Fan Expo Canada. This year Fan Expo added sports to the event and became only the second event to ever take-over the entire Toronto Convention Centre and hosted over 117K fans! Massive full frontal nerdity!!
