Mediatonic PR is a boutique public relations & social media agency that specializes in Lifestyle and Entertainment communications – – we also love to do good with some social issues work or get our geek on with techy clients and everything in between. Our recent projects include: Center of Gravity, Keloha Music & Arts Fest, Fan Expo (Vancouver/Toronto), Edmonton Expo, Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo, Aboriginal AIDS Awareness Week, Deighton Cup, GE Monogram Dinner by Design, Diner en Blanc (Vancouver/Calgary/Victoria); and social media for radio stations to comic-cons and bottled water.

What you need for this position:

  • *  MANDATORY minimum of two years (2) of experience within the social media field required.
  • * Strong technical background with an affinity to use web-based, cloud programs and a strong affinity for navigating advanced Google Analytics. Proficiency with those tools to help monitor, collect, and analyze data to guide strategic decision-making.
  • * Must be extremely detail oriented, resourceful, and able to produce high-quality deliverables while managing multiple projects.
  • * Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize, thrive under pressure, and work efficiently under short deadlines.
  • * Ability to display high energy (you thrive in a VERY fast-paced environment), take initiative, achieve performance goals, and effectively troubleshoot while focusing on innovative solutions.
  • * Ability to work as a member of a team, as well as independently.
  • * Your own high functioning laptop (Mac a bonus), full Microsoft Office suite, and smart phone.
  • * Core team is based in Vancouver, with satellite team in Toronto. For the right persona we will consider Toronto but the ideal person will be Vancouver-based.
  • * Demonstrated experience and a passion for the social technology universe: Facebook, Twitter, Flickr & YouTube (if you know WordPress that’s a huge bonus), and all the tools to go with the interfaces.
  • * Word & excel (formulas especially), and Googling are second nature daily tools.
  • * Superior communication and interpersonal skills are a must; proficient in English and have excellent writing and proofing skills.
  • * Big organizer, detail & deadline oriented and a major multi-tasker that can deal with pressure.
  • * Have initiative – if you see something that needs to be done or that can be done better you get a rush from stepping up! Can-do attitude.

What you’ll be doing:

  • * Responsible for managing a multiple accounts (3-4 in a typical portfolio) across different verticals ranging from lifestyle to entertainment.
  • * Work with clients to create a social media strategy that collaborates with marketing, PR and advertising campaigns, research top influencers, competitors, and trends in clients’ industries.
  • * Create timely and engaging content optimized for platform used and intended audience.
  • * Monitor sites for customer service opportunities and initiate conversations on behalf of the client.
  • * Be happy, smile, and bring a positive attitude to the office. We like to have fun even in the cray cray.
  • * Analyze and report social media actions on a monthly basis for successes and new opportunities. Reports are very reliant on advanced Google Analytics and other measurement tools.
  • * Create engaging and professional visuals that reflect client and their brand (Customize social media pages, create original content, etc).
  • * Stay current with social media trends and tools – includes attending networking and educational events, reading blogs, and listening to podcasts.
  • * Continue to refine and define our social marketing process.

Oh, the life of the Con! and the public relations & social media that goes along with fan conventions sure keeps our PR team hopping when on a average show we’re sorting interviews for over 100 celebrity guests and hosting over 200 media at each show. Fan Expo Sets Records & PR Firsts

It’s truly the age of the nerd. This past spring we did the media relations for Fan Expo Vancouver – this time moving into the bigger convention hall. And in 2014 we’ll now be expanding to three days.  We’ll have to top Tia Carriere (shwing!) co-hosting the entire CityTV morning show with Riaz Meghji. And Lord of the Rings star, Sean Astin, front cover of the Vancouver Sun with his joining the Sun Run in support of the Boston Marathon bombings.

And this fall we raised the comic-con bar with social media love for Fan Expo Canada. This year Fan Expo added sports to the event and became only the second event to ever take-over the entire Toronto Convention Centre and hosted over 117K fans! Massive full frontal nerdity!!

Friends in face of Facebook

Shelley Mantei Van Sun Facebook.pngIt’s not very often a social media & PR agency gets to be on the front side of the news. I was taking an advanced Facebook course (hey we have to stay on top of social media trends too!) and in one of the talks social media expert, Mari Smith shared the same beliefs Mediatonic PR has on privacy and public boundaries of Facebook – personal pages, fan pages & the rest of your life.

So when the Vancouver Sun called for our opinion on the controversy stirred by social media-themed docudrama, Catfish, it only made sense to share ink space with Mari.

In the “Friends in the face of Facebook” article and daily we’re always being asked about how much personality to share. But personality is just part of the mix of proper social media sharing (it’s “not all about you,” so make sure you have a mixture of chat that cover these bases…

Mediatonic PR’s 4 P’s of Social Media Sharing (especially Twitter and Facebook):

  • Personality – Share who you are, what you’re doing, epiphanies. Note: No one cares what you are eating! Do NOT share you just ordered sushi unless it’s the best sushi you every had or something important about where or why you are having it.
  • Promotion – This is the blatant promotion of your business, your event, or YOU (but keep it conversational – not marketing spiel).
  • Pass It Along (Contribution) – Giving back to the community links and advice about what you know, read, watch, etc;  This should be info of interest to the people that you want following you.
  • Participation – If you want others to engage with you, you have to ask questions…give answers…retweet their messages…be engaging!

LIVE@Squamish Music Festival a Success

Our other favorite article came from the Georgia Straight: Devo, Said the Whale, Dirty Vegas mae first-ever LIVE at Squamish festival a triumph.

Oh yeah.

In a time when Pemberton, Virginfest, and Lilith Fair either struggled or decided to not even throw their hat in the the ring there were alot of challenges and the brandLIVE team beat them all. They are a crew of talented (and fun) people that brought out the best in us!

From tweetups to meet & greats, and talking with the fans and media in the social media channels made this a PR experience like no other. So look out for LIVE@Squamish 2011!

Socializing with Desi

desi_social-comboI love seeing social media in action. With a real function – rather than just updating that someone ate meat balls for lunch. Sigh.

Almira and Lindsay are talking to our fav media pals about desiFEST announcement of the Vancouver lineup. It’s exciting because we’re at 3-weeks out on the count down to a really great event! So while the chickas are doing that, I’m sharing our news in the social media realm.

One of my fav parts of this kind of social media press release is that there is a Twitter pitch option. It let’s anyone on our team (or who comes to the press release) share the love…I mean spread the word…ala Twitter style. Brilliant.
